Trial Crodo
16-17 Maggio 2015
The Moto Club Domo 70, in fact Massimo Schiattareggia, has invited for the 2 days Trial d' Epoca north of Domodossola in the small village of Crodo. I forwarded the info to Giovanni & Gabriella and so I booked the weekend in my family agenda. I left Zurigo on Saturday early morning, took the auto train in Kandersteg, then Wallis via Brig and Passo del Sempione. Allready in Kandersteg on 1000m, there was some snow. On the Sempione, about 2000m, the road was wet and next to it there was about 20cm snow. Nice.
Kandersteg, Saturday morning 8.50h | on the auto train |
snow 10.30h | Passo del Sempione 2005 meter |
Later, Pierre Alain Revaz told me, that it took him 9 hours instead of 1.30h to come frome Sion to Crodo on Friday. Before the Passo del Sempione, he was stuck in the snow, with trucks blocking the street in front and behind him. After hours, he managed to turn, go back down to Wallis and took the auto train to Iselle. He startet 13h in Sion and arrived in the night at 10h in Crodo. So, I was lucky with 4.5 hours on Saturday.
I passed the italian customs with my
street legal paper for the Honda and arrived 11.30h in Crodo.
Crodo...Crodino...At the entrance of the village I new, why this sounded
familiar to me: Campari Crodino!
There was a Campari factory in Crodo.

Giovanni reserved a place for my car next too their camper on a newly made green lawn place. Pierre Alain Revaz and Pascal Germanier from the Valais were also ther plus a team with Mario Bernardini form Biasca. Later I also greated Andy Nauli from Grison.
A very nice village with good loacal
bakery and ice cream shop plus pizzeria.
Start was in the middle of the village, observed by the local police.

Giovanni an me started as last competitors in the nice sun shine. The intersone was about 8 km with 11 zonas, mostly in the wood. + and 2 werer easy, but a bit slippery. The Noriel tumpped through the woods and was great to hear the sound. Zone 3 was difficult, slippery from the rain in the last days and a rock in the entrance. I made a 5 in the second uphill on a slippery root. Gianni Tabarelli on the Fantic 240 passed with 1 point or even 0, bravo, still a great rider, although he was already a world champion competitor back in 1983 in Fully, 15th ranking. Enzo Afri was also impressive on the green Moto Guzzi, seems to be very competitive this little Stornello 4T. Also Massimo on the SWM found good grip in the slippery wood.
The zonas were tricky for me in the difficult green line, but I passed all with 30 points at round 1. The last 11 was in the valley with a nasty rock at the entrance, needed 2nd gear and some brave attack.

study of a lever: how can you ride with this Maurizio? | nice premio for my mountain trial 3rd place |
Round 2 was better with 20 points,
one zone zero till the end and then wrong exit, 5. So in reach of the local good
riders. Gianni Tabarelli made 6 and then 3, so 9 in the 2 tours. Wow, this is
another level.
Mario Bernardini from Biasca hat a good 16 (with a 5 due to crossing his line,
but was not clear, wether he crossed it) and a very good 6 in the 2nd
round.
A, I was riding the mountain trial and not with the licenced italian competors. But I was 3rd and got a really nice price:
So, a great trial, smaller than Canzo a month ago, but very nice and friendly athmosphere with the Club Domo 70. For diner, Gio, Gabriella and me went to the Pizzeria at the zona 11. Then I slept till 8h in the morning in my car.
Sunday 17 Maggio
The bakery shop was open and we got cornetti con vagnilia and Gaby served me a nice coffe. Grazi mille!

Start and zona 1. It was like yesterday. I kicked my Honda, nothing, kicked again, but it was strange feeling, the kick not coming back. Maybe the emergency stopp bracker? I switched it off, kicked, but nothing. Kicked again and then a strange feeling, the kick hanging down, brocken !!! Oh no! Que cazzo....
ok, better than breaking my leg. Yesterday I had a nice trial and today the sun is out, so I will enjoy Italy, eat a gelati at the village, watch the last zona, eat lunch an then go back earlier home.
Here fotos from the last zona
