I'm very sad to learn, that the great Italian trials champion Diego Bosis is dead, February 2012. Heart attack at the age of 44.
First time I saw Diego in action was at the Swiss world round Grimmialp in 1985. He was only 17 year old and I don't know how he managed to get the allowance to start. Besides the Merlin riders he was one of the last Mohicans on a Twinshock Montesa 330. But what a performance!
I will never forget, how he climbed the water fall zone on the heavy Montesa. He jumped from step to step. Each second rider failled, but he jumped up with his great technique and found the grip.

He finished in 9th position at the end of the day.
1984 he finished 14th in the world championship on a Fantic.
1985: 8th on Montesa
1986: 6th on Montesa
1987: 2nd on Aprilia behind the unbeatable Jordi Tarres, first win in USA round
1988: 5th on Aprilia
1989: 3rd on Aprilia
1990:2nd again on Aprilia
1991: 3rd on Fantic
1992: 3rd on Fantic (Ahvala won on the Aprilia)
1993: 10th on Fantic
1994: 7th on Beta
1995: 13th on Beta
1996: 18th on GasGas
1997: 17th on Montesa
1998: 11th on Montesa
1999: 14th on Montesa
2000: 21th
I saw Diego again 2007 at my first 3 Giorni di Valtellina in Bormio. He was riding a Future Montesa 4T with the Number 1 plate. Great sound. Extra class.
Diego No 1 at 3 Giorni di Valtellina 2007, Bormio
With the ago of 39, he was still the Italian Champion, riding for the Future Team and working for the police. Verry frustrating for the young riders...
I think at that time he must have been the best of the "dinosaurs" former world competitors form the 80ies still riding trials on the highest level.
He jumped from rock to rock, mostly tone of few who could finish a zone or make a zero (team mate Fabio Lenzi was closest).

2 meter block, wow, what a technique |
Torre Pelice 2009. 2clips, one is Diego, the other one Fabio Lenzi, but who is who? Both fiamme oro police team.
I don't speak well italian and Diego was a quiet man. But I was once sitting next to him at lunch time and we talked about Grimmialp 1985.
Ciao Diego, we will not forget you!
